Founded in 1955, the University Library began with a humble collection of 6,700 books sourced from Sri Venkateswara College in Tirupati under the management of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
The library was officially opened on July 12, 1964, by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, who was the President of India at the time. He honored it with the title “Taj Mahal of the South” highlighting its growing academic and scientific importance.
Today, the library is a vital hub for academic achievement, boasting a vast collection and offering cutting-edge facilities to enhance research and learning.

The Library follows Open Access system in all the wings of the Library. The books are classified following Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme and are catalogued following Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules.

The novel feature of S V University Library is the establishment of Competitive Examinations Cell with the main objective of providing reading material for student community preparing for various competitive examinations. The cell provides books and Periodicals relating to Central Civil Services, Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission, TOEFL, GATE, GRE, GMAT, CAT, UGC-NET, SLET, Teacher Recruitment ( DSC ) and other competitive examinations. So far, we have procured about 12,500 documents relating to various Competitive Examinations
S V University library is a participating member of UGC INFONET Programme. Under this programme, the V-Sat facility to have access to Internet is installed in SVU Computer Centre. The INFLIBNET has provided 1 Gbps connectivity to S V University. Through this it’s getting about 15000+ E-Journals and other E-Resources. In order to provide access to Full Text E-Journals and Databases available under UGC-INFONET E-Shodh Sindhu Programme Library has established a Digital Library with a provision to accommodate 40 users at a time.
